4 Days in Singapore and 6 days in Sumatra combining two distinctly different countries. This Tour gives participants abundant opportunities for wildlife encounters. Both Singapore & Sumatra are extremely rich in subjects for macro as well as birds, mammals and a host of other critters for the enthusiast nature photographer.
SINGAPORE: Singapore is a beautiful modern city with a variety of attractions for people to visit. Singapore’s nature reserves are rich and plentiful with endemic and unusual species to see and photograph. Bridgette’s past visits have led her to create this combined tour for participants to explore tried-and-true to see the best of what Singapore has to offer.
Morning walks will be at two different nature parks featuring a variety of arthropods, arachnids, mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles, gastropods and fungi. There is also good chances to see Colugo’s, one of Singapores most unique mammals.
Night Walks will be co-led by a local Singaporean photographer and expert in two different locations. A variety of fascinating insects, spiders, reptiles and frogs awaits us in a variety of ecosystems including parkland, mangrove boardwalk and rainforests.
The afternoons have been kept free for you to take advantage to explore the variety of other attractions that Singapore has on offer. Suggestions include the Botanic Gardens, Gardens By The Bay as well as the incredible shopping.
SUMATRA: The Gunung Leuser National Park is extremely rich in biodiversity and has endless opportunities for photographers to capture gorgeous images.
Get up close and personal to the IUCN Critically Endangered Sumatran Orangutans, as well as a number of other monkeys & primates including Gibbons. Marvel at the super-glamourous Great Argus Pheasant. Stroll through the accommodation grounds and see a host of harmless tree snakes, and other beautiful reptiles. Be wowed by the incredible colours and formations of arthropods, with endless butterflies, spiders and every other insect you can imagine!
This location is special for a number of reasons. This patch of UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Park once hosted a successful rehabilitation and release program for Sumatran Orangutans and thus many of the individuals are very used to humans. We will have opportunities to get great closeup images of these gentle primates, many of which are nursing mothers. Our accommodation, The Eco Lodge, backs onto this bio-centric wonder and does NOT use Palm Oil. A true eco-lodge with utmost integrity for a nature lovers retreat. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The restaurant provides a variety of classic Indonesian cuisine as well as Western meals.
